We’re passionate about supporting future talent into the transport planning profession, and we offer two possible development routes depending on your stage, qualifications, and career goals.

Level 3 Transport Planning Technician Apprenticeship

This route enables apprentices to work while completing a BSc (Hons) Transport Planning, typically over 36–39 months, with flexible day release and periodic in-person training.

This pathway supports learning in areas such as:

  • Transport planning fundamentals and designing transport systems

  • Transport modelling and data analysis

  • Policy, governance, and the project lifecycle

  • Stakeholder engagement and leadership

  • Work-based project and End-Point Assessment

Degree Apprenticeship (Transport Planner)

This route supports entry into transport planning through the Transport Planning Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship, with structured learning alongside employment and End Point Assessment.

This pathway covers a broad foundation including:

  • Transport policy, laws and regulations

  • Data, modelling, appraisal and assessment techniques

  • Public consultation and stakeholder engagement

  • Scheme design and travel behaviour change

  • Project/task management and personal development

What you’ll do with us:

Apprentices and trainees at Highgate Transportation gain experience in real consultancy work, such as:

  • Supporting transport reports and technical notes

  • Data handling and analysis

  • Assisting with Travel Plan work and monitoring

  • Understanding how developments progress through planning

  • Building professional communication skills

  • Working collaboratively across a small and supportive team

Apprenticeship Membership (CIHT):

As part of your development, you may be eligible to join the Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation (CIHT) through their Apprentice Membership, which is free of charge.

CIHT membership can support your progression by providing access to:

  • Industry learning and CPD opportunities

  • Professional events and networking

  • Guidance and resources to support your career pathway
